Before having the bichin I used to read a lot about how to develop yourself further, how to be more productive and leadership, I have read many and many books on these topics but some of my all-time favorites were (or I should probably say “are”) Robin Sharma´s The Leader Who Had No Title and Hal Elrod´s The Miracle Morning . What all of these books have in common is that successful people get up very early to start the day well. So the idea is that if you get up before most people get up you can take some time for preparing the day to come, reflection, meditation, some physical activity and a good breakfast. This approach is also often called “the 6am club” (or some even do the 5am club but that was a bit too much for me) and before the bichin was born I tried to start my mornings with the 6am club. But, since being a mom I have to say that I am not a voluntary member of the club anymore. If only the bichin wasn´t a member either…
Somehow the last couple of weeks the bichin decided he wants in on this super special club and he wakes up every day at 6am sharp. Great for his meditation, reflection and planning activities, not so great for our start of the day. After becoming parents sleep has become somewhat of a scarce resource so yeah the 6am club was still a bit too much for us. We have been a bit in the denial phase on this one, so when he wakes up in the morning we take him in our bed hoping that he will go back to sleep for another hour or so. Sometimes this works (yesterday he got back to sleep and woke up at 7.45am so that was a big sleep-in-win on a Sunday!), most of the time it doesn´t and he uses the time in our bed to get the exercising time done from the 6am club manual and his lovey does some reflection on one of our faces. So yeah, we try to sleep a little longer but since he is so motivated with this manual it mostly results in getting kicks in our stomachs or faces or him making so many rolls until he occupies ¾ of the bed.
Back in the 6am club
So here we are, back in the 6am club, or actually forced back in the 6am club but just without the productivity and kickstart-your-day habits. Because let´s face it, in our sleep deprived life and with a little guy that does kickstart his day you don´t really have the time (and let´s not talk about the energy!) to find some peace and quiet for yo
ur morning rituals full of meditation, reflection, exercise and a good breakfast. The only thing that I do do is the planning of my day.
Although the bichin might be hyperactive at first, around 8am he tends to be ready for a nap again. So by the time mom and dad need to be ready to start their day (probably not too awake!) the bichin curls up and takes a nice long after breakfast nap.
