I don´t know how many times a week we get the question “is he walking already?” but it can´t be counted on two hands. (To all the family & friends who want to ask this week, consider this post as the answer ;)) And I guess the question is normal because the bichin is a very late walker. At almost 1,5 years he only recently started making attempts to stand up and if we take him by the hand to take some steps (especially if it´s towards the kitchen since that means there´s food involved).
To be fair, he was also a late crawler and seems to be on the lazy side of life in general. Actually two months after he started daycare, one of his teachers came to us saying she was a little bit worried that he didn´t crawl yet because at that age he should be starting to walk. The little guy already crawled (at home) for months but there he pretended he couldn´t do it so that they carried him everywhere and brought him the stuff he wanted. His nickname was the prince because he just sat down and would point at things he wanted to have brought to him.
These past weeks he starts making more and more attempts of standing up himself (for months he already stays standing up if we put him next to the couch or a chair) and he has become an expert in doing the downward facing dog (seriously, every yoga teacher would be happy to have them in their class). And, he is making his first (assisted) steps.
During these efforts from his side (with a very proud face after every downward facing dog), I really noticed the importance of having the perfect shoes. Before it didn´t really matter what kind of shoes he was wearing (if any, because he has been with just socks a lot of the time), cute and matching the outfit was all that mattered (to me). But now they need to be comfy for the mix of crawling and standing, give him the right support and preferably also look cute.
And that´s exactly why I love Freshly Picked so much. These moccs not only look amazingly cute (seriously, they are so pretty) but they are also perfect especially for late walkers. Now that the bichin is starting to use his feet much more actively, it´s important to have the right shoes for his foot development. Soft-soled shoes are supposed to be best for not yet fully or beginning walkers, and the leather stretches and conforms to your baby´s foot. So for toddlers (or babies, if yours is faster than mine) who are learning to walk, these beautiful moccs do not hinder a healthy development of their feet.
Also, since they are not so heavy (as many hard-sole shoes are) they are much comfier for the mix between first steps and still crawling around the house. The shoes are easy to get on and off and they actually stay on their feet. Due to the elastic stretchy band, they don´t get off easily when the bichin crawls, which is a problem we had with many other shoes.
Speaking of the taking off, being 1,5years old this little guy wants to do a lot of things himself and he can get really pissed when he can´t make it work. Before bath every evening he wants to take off as much of his clothes as possible by himself (some parts obviously are more successful than others) and especially the shoes and socks are “his job” when getting undressed. With FP he can take off his own shoes with just a tiny bit of help and he loves it!
I received a pair of Freshly Picked Moccs in exchange for this blog post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
