So you want to work from home or you want to increase the number of days you work from home? I guess I don´t have to ask you why. Saving the commute and thus saving a lot of time every day resulting in more time to be at home with your little ones. Having a better work life balance and not having simple things like doctor appointments mess up a whole working day thereby eating up all your holidays. But, what´s in it for your employer if you work from home (more)?
For us corporate moms that work from home on a regular or less regular basis the concept working from home is quite clear. However, for many of our colleagues it seems to cause quite some misunderstandings about what we´re actually doing at home when we´re supposed to work.
One of the questions you inevitably have to deal with when being pregnant as a working mom is who is going to take care of the baby when your maternity leave will be over. Some moms choose to take a longer leave or to stop working all together but others need to think of childcare quite early in the process. Daycare, babysitter / nanny, or family?
It took me quite a while to get breastfeeding well established and to really start enjoying it. In the first months it was quite difficult (understatement..), not only painful (don´t get me started on cracked nipples or mastitis) but also the pressure of an underweight baby who needed to eat very often (and took his sweet time meaning you were basically only having 1 hour breaks in between feeding sessions) and not knowing how much milk you actually have and whether he was eating enough. By now I can say I loved breastfeeding but it took quite some tears and screams to get there.
A lot of times people ask me “how do you do it?” referring to the combination work, the bichin, writing a bit, cvandgo… This question always reminds me of the movie “I don´t know how she does it” and for a split second I allow myself to pretend that I am like Sarah Jessica Parker with her hotshot job in those cute little suits running around to manage home, work and kids on super high heels. But after that nano second I realize I might have the puking stains on my clothes but I don´t have a hotshot job, am not constantly on business trips, and am too lazy to wear tight skirts and high heels to even go to the office (let alone run around from office to schools and to end the day with a round of honor in the house).
