Ever lay in bed staring at the ceiling because you can´t sleep despite being completely exhausted? Random to do´s lists in your head and worrying because of all the things you didn´t get to today but should have because tomorrow is going to be busy again…. Sounds familiar? For me it does, and I found that for me it´s all about getting in the sleeping mood by having my night time ritual. Pretty simple and straightforward, change your going to bed ritual by implementing these 5 easy habits and fall asleep much quicker while getting a better night of rest.
Post-its all over the place with people you need to call or things you need to do. Your laundry basket is exploding and you need to really make an effort to find a clean outfit for your kid to wear to school tomorrow. You have no clue what you´re going to make for dinner tonight so it´s probably going to be pizza (again). You have some deadlines at work but due to the mess in your agenda and in your head, you don´t really remember which ones exactly. Your mother-in-law´s birthday is coming up and you need to buy a present. And the list goes on and on. Sounds familiar?
We moms tend to be the queens of multitasking. Obviously, I mean there is not really another option so it kind of comes with the job description of being a mom. With everything that needs to get done during a day, it´s simply impossible not to multitask. Cooking dinner, unloading the dishwasher and loading the washing machine for example goes in one turn in our kitchen. Giving the bichin a bath, plucking my eyebrows and finally applying some very needed body lotion is often the situation in the bathroom.
One of the keys to being productive and getting things done during your day is to be well rested. So that makes us moms kind of screwed right? When are we ever well rested? I don´t know about you but I don´t remember the last night I had a full 8hour uninterrupted stretch of sleep.
I have always loved reading and since I am a big productivity / get things done fan, there are quite some books in that genre on my bookshelf. Obviously, since becoming a mom there´s not as much time to read anymore but I do try to squeeze in some daily reading either on my commute or before going to sleep. Since time has become an even more scarce resource nowadays, I have re-read quite some books on how to efficiently manage your time and getting things done. The better you use your time, the more a busy mom can get done right?
